An authorised treatment facility drains the fuel, oil and other fluids, takes out the battery and recycles what is left. It also issues a Certificate of Destruction for the vehicle.

Before collection day, empty the glovebox, boot and door pockets. If there is a private number plate you want to keep, it has to be retained or transferred through the DVLA before the car goes.

The facility needs the V5C logbook to complete the paperwork, so keep it somewhere you can lay your hands on it.
